The Apollo Theater took its performances from the stage to the TV screen 37 years ago today, when IT'S SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO aired for the first time. Located in Harlem, the Apollo Theater opened its doors in 1913 and has hosted some of the most notable names in entertainment such as Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ella Fitzgerald, BB King, Lauren Hill, Moms Mabley, Richard Pryor, Nipsey Russell, Slappy White & Chris Rock. The show features both up-and-coming & established performers as well as the Amateur Night competition, an Apollo tradition of over 70 years.
