Blues Under the Skin (1973)
In the early 1970s, during a resurgence of interest in the Delta blues, music documentarian Roviros Manthoulis traveled to the Mississippi Delta to capture the remnants of the authentic American blues, filming candid interviews and intimate performances by such legends B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Mance Lipscomb, Bukka White, and Roosevelt Sykes.

Release Info:
Release Date: August 30, 1973 (France) | Length: 88 min | Genre: Drama, History, Music | MPAA Rating: Unknown | Note(s): Film was re-released in cinemas on July 12, 2024. Original title "Le blues entre les dents". I watched the original 1973 film in hopes of being able to "identify" people but strange format didn't help with that. This is not a straight up documentary. Sometimes people are talking and/or playing but their name is not shown or mentioned. Onike and Roland are playing characters (Hattie and Freddy) in the film but I am not sure about Amelia Cortez. In some places it she seems to be playing the part of Freddy's mother, but when she talks about her life and starts to sing and play the piano, I think she is actually a blues musician, talking about her son, who is being played by an actor. I don't know. Makes me wonder if the re-release is remastered in some way that clarifies all of this. For now I am using IMDBs classification of who are actors and who are portraying themselves.
