Included in this category are Franchise Films, Film Series, and TV Specials.
The below descriptions are taken from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia with some edits by Rhonda.
- A film series is a collection of related films in succession that share the same fictional universe. Sometimes the work is conceived from the beginning as a multiple-film work, but in most cases the success of the original film (or an original series) inspires further films to be made.
- A film franchise is described a film series which not only continues the narrative through sequels and prequels, but can also include expansion through ancillary intertexts which could include spinoffs, remakes and reboots. These formats do not have to exist as films either, and could be transmedial story telling, through other elements such as novels, video games and other works.
- The Specials included here are standalone episodes of a continuing series that feature biographies or one time special events.
Note: In some cases I may have listed a film from a series/franchise under one connecting universe. Example: AVP, which consists of films from the Alien series combined with films from the Predator series.
